I'm trying to buy my first bike, and I thought it was going to be straightforward, which would have been much better than any car buying experience. As it turns out, the bike I want is discontinued, but they still have plenty floating around. That sounds like good news, right? Nope, because they no longer make it, and it is a special edition, the prices are either really cheap, plus a warranty, or they are super expensive. And the two dealerships I have talked to so far, are either lying about having it, or trying to jack the price on me. Is this the norm with two wheel dealers, or am I just getting screwed?

Motorcycle dealerships can suck even worse than sketchy used car dealerships. What bike are you trying to get?

I've had varying experiences with motorcycle dealers, from the best people I've ever done business with (in Canada), to damned if you'll ever see a cent of mine (anyone who ignores me assuming my boyfriend is the one doing business).
In this case, it sounds they don't think you can pay for whatever reason, which is stupid. What model are you looking at? Normally dealers are trying to get rid of the last model year crate specials any way they can. You know what you want, you know what you're willing to pay, you know another dealer with the same bike in stock. Convey that information to each of them and don't be afraid to walk if they still don't respect your buying power.

The one isn't thinking I can't buy it, they just keep jerking the price around with me, and dodging the incentives they have through honda

For a first bike, I commend you on going for the 250 but I'd skip the Repsol edition. Just pick up a regular one and track it until you can really wring it out. Put the extra moneys into a good racing suit.

True, but with the incentives honda has, the price is about the same for the newer one

How much is a 2013 CRF250R non-Repsol?

Depends on the place and options. But mostly the same

Get Honda involved. They don't give you the price and incentive, they don't get the sale. Don't waste your time with them otherwise.

It's not even they don't think you can pay, some dealers just suck. I went to a KTM dealership a while back with my friend in his Ford Raptor (if a $50k+ off road truck doesn't say I'm ready to spend money on toys, I don't know what does). We're both checking out bikes, and we were completely ignored by the employees. Asked about the price on a bike twice before getting an answer, then the guy went back to chatting with his buddy.

Ask when his manager's around so you can tell him his idiot employee lost him a sale :P

I'm pretty sure one of them was the manager. They were a new dealership, very small, and I don't think they're going to be around long with that kind of service. Which is a pity, since I like the new KTMs.

Dealers suck. Always buy a used, cheap bike for your first one because you will drop it. Don't buy anything with stupid plastic fairings, because they cost way too damn much to replace.
I recomend the Suzuki Savage/S40, Virago 250, or a Honda Rebel if you want a cruiser style bike.
A Suzuki GS500 is great if you want something a bit sporty.
A Kawa KLR 650 is a good dual sport.

I know for a fact that there is one IN STOCK at Kent Powersports in Kyle, TX (just south of Austin)
I dunno if you've called them, but I know there's one on the floor, because I thought about buying it.

bummer. i've bought parts and stuff there but never a whole bike. I might buy a CB300F there when they come out but only if they're cool about it. I might have a slightly better chance because they really want our business at work.

They are trying to charge me full MSRP when I can get the same bike for almost exactly 3 grand
